Bentley has recently filed a patent for a steering wheel that would tuck away, a technology that could be used on future autonomous driving machines from the British automaker. The steering wheel patent gives the driver the option to use the steering wheel or to have it retract into a recess in the door.
“It is desirable to provide an alternative steering control unit for an autonomous vehicle which can be moved between operative and stowed positions,” the patent states. The wheel can be moved in and out of position using triggers on the steering wheel.
The patent could lead to a new design that could be found on future Bentley vehicles with autonomous technology. The upcoming Bentley EXP 100 GT revealed last year certainly comes to mind. We will keep you posted!
