The Bentayga as a Daily Grand Tourer: Why a Bentley SUV Earned Its Place in the Lineup

Read moreBritish luxury automaker Bentley has reached a new milestone in its transformation journey with the opening of a brand-new design studio in Crewe, UK. Housed within one of the most iconic buildings on its historic site, this new centre is far more than just a creative workspace—it’s a statement of Bentley’s commitment to blending tradition with innovation in an environment built to foster collaboration, creativity, and excellence.
The new studio’s location is no coincidence. Known as the “Front of House,” the building dates back to 1939 and has welcomed many distinguished guests over the decades, including the late Queen Elizabeth II. Bentley chose to preserve the building’s heritage by restoring its original 1930s façade while incorporating contemporary elements. The iconic brass staircase—once a centrepiece of the original architecture—has been meticulously restored and reinstated, accompanied by a commemorative plaque. This thoughtful fusion of past and present perfectly reflects Bentley’s forward-looking yet heritage-driven approach.
The new studio is double the size of its predecessor, thanks in part to the addition of a third storey atop the original structure. This expansion is a direct response to the needs of modern vehicle design, while staying true to Bentley’s environmental commitments. The site is carbon-neutral and prioritizes renovation over new construction, minimizing its environmental impact.
One of the standout features of the new studio is its collaborative design. For the first time, all of Bentley’s design disciplines are united under one roof—including materials and colour specialists, the Mulliner bespoke division, and user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) experts. This unified space is intended to foster greater synergy, allowing for more cohesive, innovative vehicle designs that meet the evolving expectations of tomorrow’s drivers—especially in the era of electrification.
The building’s restored exterior now proudly displays a redesigned Bentley logo—the fifth iteration of the brand’s iconic winged emblem in its 106-year history. Unveiled just ahead of the studio’s official opening, the new logo symbolizes the beginning of an exciting new chapter, as Bentley prepares to launch its first fully electric vehicle in 2026.
This studio is just one piece of a larger modernization plan for Bentley’s headquarters, known as the “Dream Factory.” Other ongoing projects include the construction of a new paint shop and a dedicated electric vehicle assembly line. The recent opening of a Centre of Excellence for quality and product launches further underscores the brand’s momentum. Collectively, these initiatives reflect Bentley’s ambition to deliver facilities that are cutting-edge, flexible, and sustainable—without losing sight of the heritage that defines its identity.
With the opening of this new design studio, Bentley shows that reinvention doesn’t have to come at the cost of tradition. By bringing together its diverse design teams in a space steeped in history but geared for the future, the British marque is laying the foundation for the next generation of Bentley vehicles—especially as it embraces the transition to electric mobility. The studio stands as a symbol of Bentley’s vision: to innovate boldly, while honouring where it all began.
