When we think of electrification or plug-in hybrids, it's not the Bentley brand that immediately comes to mind. That's understandable, since the company is known for its performance and luxury.
However, we should not forget that Bentley is always looking to be the best in all areas, including electrification. That's why the company is now offering plug-in hybrids, known as PHEVs. Of course, this is in anticipation of the all-electric model that the company is planning.
But until then, what PHEV models can we find at Bentley? Here they are, in all their glory.
The Bentayga
A true revolution in the luxury car market, the Bentayga has been a hit since its arrival on the market. And like any self-respecting modern vehicle, it is offered in a plug-in hybrid configuration. This version features a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, which, with its electric aids, delivers 443 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The electric motor alone is rated at 126 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission manages the power delivery to all four wheels.
The beauty of it all is the 50 kilometers of electric range that is offered. So you can use your Bentayga without wasting a drop of gas most of the time. This is all made possible by the 17.3 kWh battery that equips the model.
Flying Spur
The other Bentley model that is available in a plug-in hybrid configuration is the Flying Spur. Once again, the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine is put to work, along with an electric motor that helps boost total power to 536 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.
As for the electric range, we're talking about 40 kilometers. Above all, with this car, we discover just how far automotive technology has come. In fact, in addition to being able to drive electrically with such a car, you can also drive it like a sports car, despite its size and weight.
If you've been thinking about buying a Bentley, it's because you want to get your hands on the best. By opting for a plug-in hybrid, you're taking things a step further, as you're getting a more powerful, yet greener model. The best of both worlds, really.
