Bentley Motors has unveiled a groundbreaking audio system for its Bentley Batur by Mulliner, a bespoke coachbuilt model. The "Naim for Mulliner" audio system is the epitome of acoustic innovation, born from 10,000 hours of meticulous development and a complete system recalibration. This auditory marvel will be an exclusive option for the 18 Bentley Batur vehicles handcrafted at Bentley's Dream Factory in Crewe, England.
The Tech Behind the Sound
In collaboration with Naim and Focal, Bentley's engineers identified over 56 specific requirements for the 20-speaker system. Utilizing bespoke Focal speaker drivers housed in Bentley's uniquely designed speaker baskets, the system achieves unparalleled performance. The speaker configuration includes six tweeters, nine mid-range speakers, two woofers, two active bass transducers, and one sub-woofer. Each component has been fine-tuned to deliver a sound that is immersive, warm, and powerful.
The system leverages Focal's patented 'M' cones, derived from their Grand Utopia speakers, to ensure rigidity, lightness, and damping—key factors for a speaker driver. This innovation results in an extremely linear frequency response with low distortion and enhanced sound dispersion. The tweeters, in particular, are designed to produce a silky treble, while the mid-range speakers are carefully calibrated for optimal timbre and spatialization.
Beyond the Speakers
Naim's cutting-edge Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology is at the heart of the system, offering a range of modes to optimize the in-car soundstage based on seating position and listening preferences. The system is controlled via a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen interface, offering a user-friendly experience. Compatibility with streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, and Deezer ensures that customers can enjoy a wide range of audio content.
