Bentley's Mulliner division has completed the Batur Convertible #4, introducing four custom features never before seen in automotive design. Created in collaboration with collector Sonia Breslow, this commission joins her collection that includes a Blower Continuation Series, a Speed Six Continuation Series, and a Bacalar - the first of the modern era coachbuilt Bentleys.
Each element was specified to create visual harmony across colours and materials, pushing the boundaries of what Mulliner's coachbuilt programme can achieve.
The Batur Convertible #4 features Bentley's first tri-tone exterior paint scheme using colours commissioned specifically by the client. The design showcases 'Breslow Blue' as the upper colour, creating a distinctive visual identity.
A 6 mm gloss-silver fine line emphasizes the Batur's 'endless bonnet' design, drawing the eye along the vehicle's proportions. The lower exterior paint features 'Midnight Breslow Blue', with matching accent colours applied to the wheels and wing mirrors. Polished titanium exhaust finishers and bright silver grilles complete the exterior detailing.
The Batur Convertible #4 debuts Bentley's first colour-matched bespoke roof canvas. The roof fabric precisely matches the 'Breslow Blue' exterior colour, maintaining visual continuity whether the roof is raised or lowered.
When stowed, the roof reveals the matching Airbridge in the same colour - a detail that extends the design language throughout the vehicle's architecture. This capability allows Mulliner to translate a client's vision across every visible surface.
The cabin features a client-designed animated welcome lamp that projects a handwritten script of the owner's name. This feature employs 415,800 microscopic mirrors to sculpt light with precision, creating one of the most personalized elements ever integrated into a Bentley.
Each microscopic mirror works together to form the exact shape and character of the handwritten script, ensuring the projection maintains clarity. This feature transforms entering the vehicle into a moment of recognition and connection.
Bentley debuts its first application of three-dimensional printed platinum in the Batur Convertible #4. This precious metal appears in the top-dead-centre marker on the steering wheel and each organ stop.
The use of platinum - one of the rarest and most valuable metals - reflects the approach to material selection that defines Mulliner commissions. Three-dimensional printing allows for intricate geometries and precise detailing that would be difficult or impossible to achieve through traditional manufacturing methods, while maintaining the weight and durability required for functional interior components.

The cabin features warm autumnal colours - tans and caramel hues - with the light blue accent colour, drawing the bespoke Breslow Blue of the Airbridge directly into the interior space. Contrast stitching to the tonneau continues throughout the cabin to the seats, headrests, and instrument panel, creating visual rhythm.
Taking inspiration from early Bentleys, a bright aluminum engine spin finish completes the cabin fascia. The Bentley Rotating Display includes bespoke-coloured faces for the three gauges and matches the satin-blue Bentley clock face. The contours of the Batur volcano - the origin of the car's name - appear subtly crafted into the deep-pile floor mats, adding layers of meaning to the design.
Despite its highly bespoke nature, the Batur Convertible retains the most powerful iteration of Bentley's W12 engine. The hand-assembled 6.0 L twin-turbocharged powertrain delivers 740 hp, ensuring a grand touring experience worthy of Mulliner's flagship coachbuilt series. This power plant provides the performance foundation that allows the Batur Convertible to deliver both dramatic acceleration and effortless long-distance cruising.
The specification of Batur Convertible #4 reflects the client's deep passion for automotive design: "As long as I can remember, I've been passionate about cars. When I have a car like this Batur, I don't plan on selling it in my lifetime - it's my forever car. I'm totally into the detail and I love designing them - picking out the colours, working through every shade, every feature, making them different from everything else."
This approach to co-creation demonstrates the breadth of techniques, colours, materials, and finishes available through Bentley's bespoke Mulliner division. The process transforms clients from purchasers into collaborators, working alongside Bentley's craftspeople to realize visions that push the boundaries of automotive personalization.
